John E. Boling, 85, of Mount Ida, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Mount Ida Nursing Home. Born on February 4, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio, to Edgar and Margaret Jane (Nicklaus) Boling, John lived a life marked by service, music, and dedication to his community.
John is preceded in death by his parents, his son Cary Boling, and his brother David Beaver. He is survived by his devoted wife of 38 years, Betty (Black) Boling; his son Lance Boling and wife Jill; his stepdaughter Shawna Spier and husband Gary; seven beloved grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
To his closest family and friends, John was affectionately known as "WaWa," a nickname lovingly coined by his grandchildren when they first tried to say "Grandpa." The name stuck and became a symbol of the love and joy he shared with his family.
A man of many talents and passions, John found profound joy in music. As a gifted drummer, he played alongside recognized musicians, leaving his mark in the world of rhythm and melody. Later in life, he shared his love of music locally, instructing children in piano and passing down his enthusiasm for the art to future generations.
John proudly served his country as a Heavy Weapons Infantryman in the United States Army, embodying the values of dedication and sacrifice. In his civilian life, he was deeply engaged in his community, serving as an alderman and playing an active role in the Mount Ida Methodist Church, where his faith and commitment to service were evident to all who knew him.
In addition to his musical and community contributions, John loved traveling both within and outside the United States with his wife, Betty, and their cherished travel partners. These adventures brought him immense joy, allowing him to explore new places, meet new people, and create lasting memories with those he loved most.
John’s family and friends will forever remember his kindness, humor, and unwavering support. His contributions to the Mount Ida community, his love for music and travel, and his enduring dedication to his family and faith leave a legacy that will not be forgotten.
